I've promised myself, and others, no upgrades for the forseable but i have a hankering for new psu, possibly a cart and definatly wall shelf for the tt.
lingo - too much money
Origin live - difficult to tell and fit
avondale - tempting
i know this is a well worn pink fish type question but has anybody here experience of the above.

As a well worn pink fish type person I have the following suggestion; build a Armageddon clone. Everything you need to know can be found on Neil McBride’s site http://www.neilmcbride.co.uk/ttpsu.html , and the cost is about 65 quid all in. I’m running one and it sounds great. Valhalla boards can often make more than this amount on ebay, so it can be a free upgrade!

thanks tony - all I got to do is find someone to help me build it. 65 quid is v. appealing and if it sounds great too.

Are you serious .......is that all thats in the armagedon ?
Hell's teeth, I'm thinking of the psu for my late lamented Alphason Sonata, a massive regenerating affair, almost infinetly variable, on both 33 and 45rpm.
Still if it works and simple is normally better go for it.

there doesn't seem to much to it, a transformer a cap and a resistor ish. I wonder is this the avondale design?

I don't suppose that anybody who has tried this mod has any 'Typical' RS Components, Farnell, or Maplin order codes do they ? Not sure whether I wish to meddle with my LP12 just now as I've just had it all dealer sorted, I'm a terminal meddler though so it would be good to have some part numbers, just for the record.

I'm sure this question has come up in the DIY room over on pfm, it might be worth a trawl (though the search engine is total crap). Jason H kindly built my PSU for me so would be able to answer your question. It is an excellent upgrade from the Valhalla.

if you mean the circuit at http://www.neilmcbride.co.uk/ttpsu.html
the maplins codes are
3k3 3 watt resistor 1 x W3K3 , 0.29 p
0.1uf capacitor 2 x SC93B , 0.19 p
240/110v 500va transformer 1 x VS63T, £37.99

Then you just need a suitable box to put it in, an on / off switch, and a means of connecting it to the deck – mine is connected via a 4 core lead that connects to the PSU box via a 4 pin XLR plug and socket. It also has a standard IEC mains socket to enable any mains lead to be used.

Cheers Chaps,
I suppose if i decided to try this out, I could just leave the Valhalla where it is and connect in the off board PSU. I've just spent good money getting the deck set up again and so don't want to upset it. Disconnecting the 4 power leads and routing some new ones in looks like its pretty easy though.
Thanks again.
