Just come from the Groovehandle and pleased to be one of the first members of this new Forum. Congratulations on setting it up so quickly and good luck.

As a first post it is perhaps worth listing my kit:

Naim CDSII/XPS/Nac 52/Supercap/Nap 250/KEFKIT 3

How about others doing likewise until the ideas start coming for new threads.

By the way anyone interested in discussing 70s KEF speakers or drive units (or just speakers of any kind) are welcome at:

Here is the system we have downstairs which is built out of stuff given to me or my old stuff from upgrades:

Goodmans crappy CD Mulitchanger (will be upgraded to my Sony CDP XE530 when I finally get round to buying a CD6000OSE.

Marantz PM4000 amp, far too good for this system IMHO

Old 1984 Sony Reciever (amp section does not work)

JPW 310i Speakers

Overal the sound is quite good for its purpose, its not audiophile but its a lot better than the average mini system. My system puts it to shame though :)

OK here goes:

Stereo
Linn LP12/DIY 'Geddon Clone PSU/Akito 2/Denon DL 103 MC Cart
Stock Linn Arm i/c cable
MF X-LPS
Monster 400 i/c to Pre

I also have a recently purchased Dual 505-4 TT as a poor, (by comparison), spare.

Sony DVP-NS305 DVD Player (used as CD Transport)
Eccosse 'Producer' Co-ax Digi Lead
Rotel RDP-980 Offboard DAC
Monster 'CD' i/c to Pre

Rotel RC1070 Pre amp
DIY 'GWS' i/c to Pwr amp
Rotel RB1070 Pwr amp
DIY 'FFRC' fl-bw Speaker cable

Mission 782 Floorstand speakers

All powered of a DIY Dedicated Hi-FI mains spur with DIY dual stage 'Swampy' active noise filter ( ie, the Electrical power actually goes thru the Filter). I also have a couple of RA yello and a Kemp Lo-pwr mains cables.

DIY Turntable wallshelf. Fully welded construction, Brazillian 7 ply wooden Platform on 3 upturned adjustable spikes. The Linn manual said to mount the TT on a firm, light, rigid, low mass support, so thats what i did. Wall shelfs and lightweight internal stud walls do work VERY effectively if you use your brains when fixing it to the wall.
Atacama Europa Hi-Fi rack for the boxes with DIY squashy feet isolation plats under DVD, DAC and Pre.
DIY Granite/wood/Air Tube speaker plinths under speakers.

Soon gonna try some wooden 'soldiers' under the Floor (now done ), directly under the speaker positions to try and couple the speaker Plats to the concrete house foundations. This is to try to reduce the 'Drum skin' effect of my springy suspended wooden floors with large resonant crawl space underneath. A cheap experiment that may or may not work, just need to get covered in building dust and cobwebs to find out. :(

Overall pretty happy with the sound right now and have been for a few weeks- curious. I'm sure the nice sunny weather and long days is playing its part in my general happiness at the moment too though.

AV System
Purely anecdotal but thought i better mention it.

Sony NS-DVP305 DVD player (yes the same one)
IXOS 131AV gold, 5 metre, fully wired Scart

Panasonic NV-FJ630 Hi-Fi VCR
IXOS .75AV Fully Wired Scart

Grundig SKY box
IXOS . 75AV Fully wired Scart

Panasonic TX-W32R4DP 32" Widescreen TV with built in Dolby Pro-logic and sh!tty external speakers- more than adequate for my AV needs.

Basically the DVD player is connected to the Hi-Fi via a Digi lead to DAC for music and to the TV via Scart for movies. The Stereo and AV is in essence separate though.

Edited to Add:
Sep 03. Just replaced my DIY wallshelf with a MANA referenece (P2) wallshelf for the LP12.

It now kinda looks like this :

For music:
- Squeezebox+ (basically a Squeezebox 3 on steroids with better PSU, clocks and a much improved DAC section)
- Bel Canto Evo2i digital stereo integrated amplifier. Don't ask me to explain how it works, I have no idea, but it sounds awesome. The only amps that have impressed me more have been seriously expensive valve amps (e.g. WAVAC).
- Impulse Ta'us horn loaded 3 way speakers
- Stillpoints under the amp and SB+ control unit
- Cables are from Coherent Systems, you wouldn't believe how much difference the power cables made.

The Squeezebox+ addresses my PC via a Netgear RF router. I have my whole CD collection cut to FLAC using EAC. It's also fully backed up to a second independant drive.
The electronics are sat on an Ikea lack stand, with a high density anti vibration system under the SB+ boxes (Argos granite chopping boards).

For AV
- Panasonic PTAE500 projector connected to a UPS (just in case)
- Sony VTX-800 Freeview box
- Sony PS2
- Samsung BDP-1000 BlueRay player via HDMI/DVI to the AE500
- Yamaha E800 processor, which powers the rear speakers and outputs pre-outs to my stereo for the fronts.
- Kef 3001 rear speakers

All the above (stereo and AV) is controlled using a Marantz RC2000 learning remote control.

Cans: Rega Ear into Sennheiser HD540 refs and HD600s. Connected using a Zanash Eichman terminated stereo interconnect cable.

Where next:
My guess is that I'll look at the projector next, and am considering a dem on a Panny AE2000.

The plaster ear was a gift from a friend. I'm not sure where he found it, but it seemed quite appropriate for my listening room. ;)

That statue was given to me by my wife's grandmother. It had belonged to her grandfather (who had passed away), and everyone in the family hated it. When I discovered it in their basement and exclaimed my appreciation, she gladly gave it to me. Jill still doesn't love it as I do, but she's learned to appreciate the intrinsic artistic value. :D

A friend once pointed out to me that much of the art around the house (and especially in my listening room) is "violent". I guess I like my art to shake me up, which is what I also expect from much of my music listening. That's also why I have Naim gear, because it really serves up the "life" in the music. Too many "audiophile" systems smooth everyone out, leaving the result bereft of any emotion.

I don't really have a good suggestion to be able to continue banter about someone's kit (or room decoration :D ) other than to start a new thread on the topic...

Another challenger for the most expensive system on this forum ...

... my E-bay £450 bargain special:

Marantz CD6000 OSE CD
Black Rhodim HARMONY Interconnect CD/Amp
Rega Elicit Amp (1992 vintage)
Rega Alya Loudspeakers
HQ 4mm Gold Plated Banana Plugs ;-)
QED Silver Anniversary Speaker cable (not bought Ebay)

Makes very, very nice noises indeed!

Plus, for my AV needs ... more E-bay goodies:

Hitachi 28 Widescreen
Toshiba SD110E DVD player
YAMAHA DSP-A590 Digital Sound Processing Amp
QED 79 Strand (not bought Ebay)
Legendary Rogers DB1 used as rear loudspeakers!!!
Very heavy spiked metal stands - unknown brand
Still looking for a good Centre speaker and maybe when we move a good sub-woofer!

DVD club ... www.mailboxmovies.com Brilliant service!!

Bedroom system:

AWESOME Denon UD-M3 'Personal Component System' - the all in one mini system that replaced my Pink Triangle/Audiolab/Royd system 5 years ago without me even blinking. Magic, but hardly used these days.
Above usually used now with Beyer Dynamic DT231 Galactic headphones (not bought Ebay), since moving the Rogers speakers into AV system.

Listening room ... after last night I can't find it!! Is this my house?

Basically, big couch and chair, hi-fi/AV, french windows to garden and fresh air, Franny and Zooey (the two cats ... or my lap speakers!) and wife (sometimes!)

The source has always been a problem in my system.

I started with the musical fidelity 3d (nuvista), it sounded good in the shop, not too keen on the way in sounded in my room (too brittle at the top).

Sold it

Then i started using on Arcam Alpha 5 plus (oldie but goody). The output card started to go and was left with the Xbox.

I decided to buy a Musical Fidelity a3.24 (£450 s/h) which could upsample all my music and thought xbox games would benefit. One problem, it brought back hard top end.

Sold it.

Bought a DAC64 mk 2 a few days ago too. (£1350 s/h, HiFi for sale). It has been an absolute revelation to my system. SWEET.
Never heard music produced like this before.

Unfortunately now i need to sell it (see classifieds). That damn taxman.

One thing is for sure. A DAC64 will be returning. Oh, and i might try a better transport (SCD-1).

***EDIT*** Kept the DAC64 sold the MF a300cr. The Tag Transport about to land.

I put this on another thread but then got confused as to why It asked for a list here, but being new I didn't wish to upset anyone (yet) so:

Sources:
Nain Cd 3.5 (Hicapped)
Linn Axis/Akito/'K9

Amp:
Naim NAC102 pre flatcapped and NAPSC'd
Naim NAP180 power

Speakers:
Naim SBL's

bits:
Kimber high current powercords throughout, kimber PBJ mains cinterconnect for the power supplies to cd/pre, attenuated Kimber KCAG interconnect between cd and pre, Kimber silver streak interconnect between pre and power amp. Kimber 4 TC speaker cables. Mana through out including under SBL's

Other stuff:
Yamaha processor being fed from a Pioneer DV646a, B & W centre and surrounds. Big Toshiba TV.

GrahamN
8th August 2003, 00:37
Seem to have forgotten to do this so far, so:

CDP: Wadia 861 (actually 860 + 1 upgrade)
IC: M/F NuVista (actually 2.5m long - all they had left)
Amp: LC Audio Patriot V100 (pwr amp...no pre needed) - 100W class A, or 20W classA -> 120W A/B
Speaker cables: 3.5m Townshend Isolda DCT
Speakers: Meadowlark Heron-i
Supports: couple of bits of MDF and a few inner tubes
Power: Trichord Powerblock 1000 running both amp and CDP.
Trichord power lead on CDP, standard kettle cable on amp.
Also: connection through 5-way switch-box from TV (Sony Nicam), VCR (Panasonic) and cable digibox (NTL). Currently connected byh swapping RCA I/Cs - but plan on getting AES/EBU balanced I/C for CDP and then using the input switch on the amp.

Miscellaneous not currently in service
Turntable: Pioneer PL12D £45 in 1976(?) (captive I/C)
Cart: Ortofon VMS20E mkII
DAB Tuner: Psion Wavefinder -> PC (Mesh 550MHz Athlon) -> Creative SB Live! 1024, although mostly now feed in radio (R3, R4) from the NTL digibox. Next step is to put in digital feed from PC to Wadia.
Also 512kbps internet connection for streamed radio etc.
Headphones: Technics RP-F800 (Xmas present sometime)

Other bits now sort of redundant - effectively constitute a 2nd and 3rd system if I ever got around to plugging them in - or main components should really be heading for the 2nd hand sales:
CDP: Meridian 508.24
CDP: Philips CD473, £239 in 1988
Amp: Musical Fidelity M3
Tuner/Amp: Technics SA200L, £161 in 1979(!!)
I/C: DNM reson
Speaker Cables: UBYTE-2 (DIY from TNT website)

Tape: JVC KD21B £100 in 1979(?) - NOW DEAD

Also redundant speakers:
Monitor Audio R352, £237 in 1988 (actually now sold to bro, but still squatting)
Rogers LS6a (from about 1989)
Celestion Ditton 15 (from about 1972)

Room: main area 12' x 16', through open plan archway (by LH speaker)to similar sized neighbouring room and stairway.

Music interests: Broadly classical orchestral and opera (mostly excluding 1750-1800) - I particularly like Wagner/Strauss/Mahler and a warm-to-neutral sound. Also bits of blues (Howling Wolf, Hooker, Holliday); jazz (Mingus, Ellington, Goodman); classic rock (Floyd, Genesis, Queen, U2) some newer stuff (Verve, Portishead) and ambient/electronica.

Oh dear - here we go for the forum's worst system!

Hi-Fi
-----

Marantz CD6000 OSE LE (currently broken)
Denon TU260L II tuner
Cambridge Audio A500 amp (cough)
Cambridge Audio P500 power amp (shuffles embarrassedly)
Wharfdale Diamond 8.2 speakers

JBL Superconductor 2 interconnect (CD/int)
Townshend Isolda DCT budget interconnect (int/power)
Townshend Isolda DCT speaker cable

Yup, so the cables are waaaaaay more expensive than the rest of the system. Sheesh. Given that I'm broke, I'm stuck with this lot for a while although I am going to try and sell the amps and get something better second hand. Shouldn't have bought a power amp with such a low budget system, but you live and learn.

Home cinema
-----------------

Panasonic PTAE100 LCD projector (800+ hours and still not dead - touch wood!) + Hoya FLD filter
HTPC
Yamaha AX630SE
Crappy Packard Bell speakers
Terrible free speaker cable

Some Kef eggs would be nice to beef up the sound, but the DVD picture quality is amazing. (The PC is Radeon powered and I'm using Zoomplayer with the PowerDVD video codec and ffdshow filter).

What's wrong with this Cambridge stuff? You reckon it's worse than my Musical Fidelity e10? (my system is on the top of this page) I'm interested because I could get a p500 for not much at a local shop and I'm looking for some more power. My e10 is 2*40 watts @ 8 ohm. I guess I'll have to look somewhere else...

danzig66
11th August 2003, 16:37
Hey Onno,

I guess the Cambridge Audio is okay, but I hate the fact it doesn't take banana plugs. I've had to go back to using cheapy Gale speaker cable as it's unterminated.

For the £300 I spent on both CA amps, I could have just got a better integrated instead.

How much is the shop selling the P500 for? I am going to sell mine too.

Ian,

I was happy. Sadly, the TacT power amp was incompatible with my plans to run a turntable at some point in the near future, so this meant a substantial rejig. Still the good news is it hasn't actually cost me anything:)

The electronics sit on an old cheapie rack from Richer Sounds. The Active 10s sit on a pair of old (but very good) Target R6 (I believe) stands. I also have an old Denon DU-260 tuner that I don't use very often. And for late-night listening I have a pair of the superb Sennheiser HD-600 headphones.

My home cinema (integrated with my hifi):

Oh yeah, and a Sanyo PLV-Z1 projector. :)

I listen to all sorts of music, though I'm not very good at naming genres (whoever invented genres should be shot at dawn). Examples of favourite artists: Radiohead, Blur, Massive Attack, Prodigy, Dust Brothers, R.E.M., Tori Amos, Enya (seriously!), Dire Straits, Fiona Apple, Air, Bob Dylan, Led Zep, Caetano Veloso, Nirvana, Leonard Cohen, Pearl Jam, Ani DiFranco, Counting Crows, Bjork, Garbage, Rage Against the Machine, Pink Floyd........ I also like jazz of all sorts, though my experience and knowledge in the area is sadly lacking. I'm also a diehard John Williams fan (the film score composer). Oh, and I also love classical - Beethoven, Vivaldi, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Haydn, Holst, Chopin, and more, though like jazz I'm constantly trying to discover more.

I'm a regular at AV Forums and [more recently] AV Talk, but I'd say my interests are more heavily weighted towards hifi than home cinema. As such I'm looking forward to taking part in these most excellent fora. :)

Cheerio,

P.S. - Please excuse the diagrams - I was bored. :p (Someone want to give me a job?)

Thank you sir. :)

As for upgrades... Well, I recently rearranged my room by 90 degrees and though the overall sound is much better, the new arrangement has brought out a pair of nasty room modes at 47 and 78Hz. I'm hoping to get me some bass traps at some point to cure them. Not cheap, though. There also appears to be a slight edge to the treble that I'm guessing is caused by the speakers position relative to the wall. I'm hoping to get some Auralex or similar room treatment panels for the wall to maybe sort that out.

Other than that, I'd say my hifi is pretty much complete until I can afford some real heavyweights (hoping to one day own a pair of ATC Active 50s, or maybe the superb ART Expressions I heard the other day, though neither speaker can really be considered "affordable"...)

I do need to upgrade my home cinema setup, though. I desperately need a proper processor - the cheapie Yamaha really doesn't do justice to the ATCs. :( I'm hoping for something like a Lexican DC-2/MC-1, or maybe a Meridian 565 or 561.

I'm also hoping to upgrade the Mission surrounds to maybe ATC SCM-7s, and a decent secondhand stereo power amp to match.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy with my system as it is. :)

erm......barring a number of scattered and unconnected pieces of hifi apparatus, i am rapidly approaching a state of music maker oblivion.

Currently seeking the hifi scrapheaps for seperates of mass musical potency.

I request a further 600million dollars from the ZG management for the indefinite interim period of vain exploration for audio nirvana. I expect the full continuation of all my priviledges throught this troubling time.

Any dissent expressed towards this futile adventure will be struck down ferociously with mammoth tuners of a 1970's vintage. Amid the carnage, battered corpses will be surreptitiously removed and incarcerated for an indefinite period on a Naim infested island, wheeled around on Mana trolleys and shackled with tuning forks, blindfolded even to the simmering olive haze.

How are you finding the 82? Is it a big step forward from the Nait?

I suppose I had better update my list as well :)

julian2002
26th October 2003, 19:54
neil,
i'm going to put a review up in about a weeks time as the one i got was ex-demo and hadn't been used since the 282 and it's ilk arrived. so far, bass is more controlled - room boom has dissapeared, detail is not quite in the moon league but up there compared to the nait but the soundstage is intermittent depending on recording. it's presentation is less sumptuous than the naits a bit more 'warts and all' but it's difficult to stop listening to it or do anything else when it's on, which says something. you'll have to come round soon and see what you think.
cheers

Congrats on the 82 Julian, I've one too and it's just great.

Did you trade up from a Nait to an 82? If you did that's quite a BIG step forward! Don't suppose you using a hicap with it? They just get better and better if you give them better power.

Personally I'd skip a second hicap and go straight to a supercap (if you're that keen) - but that's another story! Otherwise enjoy :D

Well, so much for "mostly settled"....

The RCD-991 has just gone in favour of a marantz CD16, and this is being used as a transport into an M-audio SuperDAC, with a few mods.

This leads to the slightly odd situation, with (at new rrps) around £3k of digital front end and speakers forming a system around a £270 amp...

It doesn't work amazingly well, and the amp is clearly the weak link in the chain. It doesn't lack for power, but with some amps borrowed from work, things are rather better...

Other mods to the digital front end are forthcoming, and I'll get a DVD player too....

To quickly recap:
Marantz CD16 => M-Audio Superdac 2496 => Omiga Spitfire => Rotel RA-971mkII => Tara RSC Prime => Meadowlark Kestrel Hotrod.

Digital cable not yet finalised, SuperDAC will also connect to optical out on Terratec Aureon (when it arrives!).

Hi Alco,

Welcome! :)

I notice you have a pile of LPs in the corner in one of your photos, the debut album from Dire Straits is the one that's in view if I'm not mistaken... Do you currently use a turntable in your system, or are the LPs just there in the room for decoration now these days? ;)

Had a look at your website too. Very interesting. Looks like you've been into hi-fi a long time and owned a lot of interesting components, especially the planar and electrostatic speakers. I don't speak any Dutch by the way, in case you were wondering, but at least the pictures and equipment names don't need any translation. :D

Alco
1st December 2003, 06:10
Hi Henry,

thanx.
Yes, you're right.... It is the Dire Straits debut album on vinyl you saw on the pic.
I have about 15/20 LP's left. I love vinyl and TT's and thought about getting me a new TT again but their are some facts that keep me from doing it:

1. As I mentioned, only got about 15/20 album's left.
2. My kinda music rarely comes out on new vinyl.
3. s/h LP's are also harder to find in my area, and prices are rising.
4. Now that I've got a CDX, I'm pretty satisfied with the sound of CD, and I'm afraid I'd have to pay quite a price for a decent TT.

Still,...never say never...maybe one day I'll still get me a TT.
(probably a s/h one then)

About 3 months ago I dediced that to continue my website only in Dutch. Before that time people had the choice in the mainmenu, to choose the Dutch languace or my English translation.
Imho it was too much work to translate every page.

But... you got me thinking, I still have the HiFi pages in English, so perhaps I'll make a link to them only, instead of all the pages.

Alco

Hi Robbo,

I saw 'em at a friends house, some years ago already, and I liked the system very much.

It doesn't take much (floor)space and you can still store many CD's. (180 CD's in one 'tower' )

They're available in different real wood veneers.

Only bugger might be transportation....
They're very tall/high, so they just fitted in the car...

Alco and Marcus,

The player is a Simaudio Moon Eclipse. Simaudio are a Canadian company who have been around for 20 years and have quietly been producing really good kit.

http://www.simaudio.com/moonaudio.htm

IMO, having heard both players, the Eclipse does everything a Naim CDS3 does but better and a lot more besides. is fabulously well built (miles better than anything else I have seen including the CDS3) and is cheaper than the CDS3 to boot.

I honestly think that the flat earthers/ Naimies out there should check this brand out.

Markus,

I was delighted to provide Robbo with said item as part of my down sizing:cry:

It's a damned good player, I haven't heard anything that I prefer, it offers the detail retrieval and staging of the top US kit with the timing and pace of the best of British.

I will have to replace it at some point, but I doubt I will find anything better. I still have the pre/power and I have to say, the Sim "house sound" is about as good as solid state gets to these jaded ears.

Hi Markus,

Like many posters here, I generally baulk at buying new kit due to the horrendous depreciation and wide selection of quality s/h kit that is usually available. However, the Eclipse is so good that I would probably consider buying it new. Thats quite rare for me!

Regarding the price I paid, I think it is rather indelicate to discuss these kind of things, however a search of the buy and sell forum may help you with the information you seek:)

I'm new around here so apologies for butting in.

My equipment:

Meridian 206b as transport
Chord DAC 64 - recently bought and loving it
Michell Argo/Hera pre-amp - still the best for me
M F A300cr power amp - circa 235 watts/channel into 8 ohms
Dynaudio Contour 3.3 - also recent purchase and loving them
Various cables - all about to be up-graded - a tumultuous task

Question: looking for a new transport to complement the DAC 64, or good CD player to act as a transport - any ideas or combinations that work. The posted article from Rob Watts on optical versus digital connection was interesting and I have alreasy got a Nordost optical cable on order.

BTW, I used to share a house with Rob Watts (and Adrian Walker) in Cardiff just before they set up Deltec (to become DPA). Used to see him regularly, but over recent years haven't seen the old blighter.

Hi BB,

Welcome to the forum!

So you were mates with Rob Watts? I met him a couple of times at their factory when I took my dpa kit over for repair/upgrade, he's a very intelligent guy. I am an ex dpa user now buy had many happy years with their kit. It's a shame dpa are no longer around.

Regarding your transport question, there are a number of guys on the forum who run a dac 64. It may be worth putting up a separate thread about this.

Cheers, Robbo

As promised a couple of photos from the King household.

Having recently moved from sunny Brighton to a snowier Sweden I'm still playing around with speaker position. Also having gone from a regency flat with 3 meter high ceilings and a listening position of around 4 meters from the speakers I'm now fully benefiting from active crossovers for that infinite amount of tweakablity.

Cheers, PK

Thanks Philip :) .

Ash Design racks are v. nice, aren't they ?
Garyi (a fellow Z/G member) uses Ash as well. They also have great W.A.F. which is always handy.

The stuff between the transports is just some marble floor tiles I picked up cheap. I'm really just using them to seperate the units until the CDT-2 (on top) goes to it's new home.

The CD racking is from IKEA (I need more but have no room to put them up :( .) and can be found here (http://www.ikea.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=7&productId=13147&langId=-20&parentCats=10104*10170) .

They are very sturdy and suprisingly compact. Highly recommended :).

I am saving for an Ash design, my floor is cherrywood, so it should match beautifully... ;)

I would prefer the metal work in black, but they dont make it...

Also, they dont say the clearance between shelves, I need about 21 cms for the bottom and 16 for the top... :MILD:

Hmmmm, maybe the Cosmic 3 I have is a little tight for your needs as I have about 36cm of usable space [in total].

The Cosmic 4 has an extra 10/15cm of shelf space so that may be more appropriate for your needs.

And if you want the metal black........paint it :MILD:.

28th January 2004, 16:42
Hi Antonio,

After having a quick measure I'm not sure that they'll be enough clearance for you. I currently have a 24cm lower level and a 11cm upper one, with 1cm deep glass.

"21 cms for the bottom and 16 for the top... " looks like it mat not fit, sorry.

Worth mailing Ash and getting a more accurate answer though.

As an aside, you do get a customer service questionnaire when you purchase one with some odd questions on. e.g. Favourite super hero??

The Cosmic 3 is the only possible solution, the 4 is too high and too narrow...

36 cms, if that doesnt include the shelves, its ok, the power I want is 17,5 cms, bottom shelf, and the processor is 14,4 cms, middle shelf, everything else is smaller, 2 cms clearance should be enough, as it is open all arround... :MILD:

Nah seriously, the P9's a belter. And the recent upgrade from a Creek OBH-8SE/Reson Reca to the Tom Evans/Sumiko was a major eye opener. I'd pimp my g/f for The Groove, but sweet as she is, I doubt it would raise the necessary two grand. Way too much moola.

Steven,
I have a CDX in a non naim system and use doctored Naim interconnects, I prefered these to a set of Nordost Blue heaven's.How do you find the cables you are using? have you tried Naim interconnects? I find them more musical.

Quite. If anyone wants to have a cable discussion (afterall, we haven't had one for, oooohhh, about 3 days now  ) then please start another thread.

Actually, that goes for discussing anything in this thread really. I starts to lose its purpose if every "what I've got" post has a 50 post discussion following it :) .

finally just about finished. very happy with the way things are sounding now. i just have a few items left to sort out, namely power conditioning. there is definitely a huge amount of mains noise in central london.

currently consists of:

wadia 301

eastern electric minimax

vac auricle mkii

thiel cs 1.6

power cables are 2/3rds nordost shiva (to be completed)

and interconnects are RS audio silver

was thinking about russ andrews purifier / super purifier
and then i need to upgrade the speaker cables which are currently old monster cable (not sure which ones, doesn't say on the cables othere than that they are OFC but at least 15 years old)

I sold my Quadraspire Q4 2 days ago.
(I thought, what's the use of having a 4-tier rack when I actually only use 2 components.)

I found this old AV-table that I bought many years ago, which was only doing duty in my computer-room, stuffing piles of HiFi-magazines.

So, I've gone back to basics now.
It doesn't get more 'keep it simple' than this...:D

Oops, that's never going to work, how do you all get these things down to 20K without making them miniscule?

Increase the compression. The other option is to host the image on another site and then link to it.

Impressive setup, you've got there.

What a CD player you have¡¡¡¡¡

I had a listen last saturday and I think is one of the best CD player actually in the market.

How the audionet match with other non audionets amplifiers?

Thank you Ronaldo.

thanks for your comments on the cdp i bought this on it ability for playing all types of music it works well with loads of amps.
go for something neutral in presentation. i was not as inpressed with the matching amp and prefered the roksan.
the cdp on a par with at least 2 cdp's that were twice the price, but this is my opinion.
i thought it sounded better than a naim cdx/xps and also my mate's 777 sony sacd player in both modes. i also had a listen too another player in the £5000 bracket which shall remain nameless overpriced tat.
to be honest at £2300 there is nothing that touches it.
to those of you concerned (you know who you are) it has blue lights :)

I like to keep things simple

(just swapped 2 pinewood planks from my simple, little AV-rack for 2 light-oak veneered MDF boards yesterday)
